About this piece
The guerrab in his red tasselled hat, hung with brass cups, is the most photographed man in Marrakech and mostly sells photographs now rather than water. Tip one of his cups and what comes out is the Menara basin — a reservoir Almohad engineers cut in the twelfth century and fed from the mountains through an underground channel. Both of them are in the business of bringing water to a dry city.

Composed here, from a brief we wrote, in the manner of mid-century photomontage. Nothing in it is taken from anybody else’s collage — which is why we can sell it to you, and why it can be recoloured to your room without asking anyone’s permission.
