A royal portrait is the oldest joke in pet painting and the one that never stops working: your animal, seated on an embroidered cushion in a velvet cape, painted as if a court had commissioned it. Ours are set in Marrakech — carved cedar, brass lanterns, a glimpse of the Koutoubia — and painted from your own photograph, so the face is theirs and the grandeur is borrowed.

What makes it royal — and what we leave out

Embroidered velvet capes, pearls, damask cushions and lantern light shape these imagined Marrakech interiors. No crowns, no fez, no sunglasses, no hands or people in the frame — the portrait should feel like a considered composition, with your pet’s face and character at its center.

Your photograph guides the face and markings; the imagined scene guides the composition. Check their eyes, coat and ears in the preview. Corrections using the same photo and setting are free. Another photo or setting uses a new preview. If it still doesn’t feel like them, contact the studio.

Choose the court

Tuxedo cat in an emerald embroidered cape and pearls on a velvet cushion

The Palace Guest

Emerald velvet, a strand of pearls and carved cedar. Quietly regal, made from their photograph.

Suits: Black, black-and-white and tuxedo coats. The emerald cape and dark cedar make a pale chest and paws read like a shirt-front.

The Marrakech Regular

Burgundy velvet and gold embroidery, with the Koutoubia glowing beyond the terrace.

Suits: Cream, apricot and white coats, and any curly or fluffy dog. Burgundy against a pale coat is the classic royal contrast.

The Majorelle Muse

Cobalt velvet and an ochre cushion. A bright-eyed portrait with a royal flourish.

Suits: Silver, grey and blue-toned cats and dogs. The cobalt cape picks up a cool coat and the ochre cushion warms the face.

Chestnut-and-white Cavalier in a rose embroidered cape on a sage cushion

The Quiet Companion

Dusty rose, sage embroidery and gentle light. A softer kind of grandeur.

Suits: Chestnut, red-and-white and older animals. The softest look of the six; rose and sage flatter a greying muzzle.

The Koutoubia Companion

Midnight teal and antique gold, framed by a cedar arch and the last light.

Suits: Brindle, fawn and lean, upright dogs. The teal cape and the cedar arch suit a long neck and a dignified sit.

Before you choose

Does my pet have to be sitting in the photo?
No. Any clear photograph with the eyes, nose and ears visible will do; the look supplies the seated pose and the cushion. A photo taken at their eye level gives the best result. The photo guide shows what works.
Can I have the cape without the cushion, or a different colour?
Each look is one approved composition — cape, cushion and setting together — so that what you preview is what you get. To change the colour story, choose another of the six. For a plain portrait with no cape, choose any of the seventeen places instead.
Is this a real place?
The royal looks are imagined Marrakech interiors built from real references — cedar, zellij, brass, the Koutoubia through a doorway — rather than one named address. If you want a documented place, every one of the seventeen on the places page sits on its true coordinates.
Can two pets share a cushion?
Each portrait features one pet. For two, upload a separate photograph of each and choose the same look; two royal portraits side by side is how a court would have done it anyway. Each portrait is purchased separately.
What do I get?
A watermarked preview first, free. Then, if you want it, a 1024 × 1536 pixel digital portrait with no watermark for €15. Download it after payment is confirmed; a download link is also emailed. Prints and framing follow their own availability.
