Koutoubia Minaret
The Koutoubia is an Almohad mosque complex in Marrakech. The official city tourism guide describes its stone minaret as 77 metres tall, with carved reliefs and ceramic decoration near its upper levels. That recognisable vertical silhouette is the real-world reference behind this studio setting; the portrait is not a measured architectural rendering.
By long tradition nothing in the medina may rise above it, which is why, from any rooftop in the old city, it is the one thing on the skyline.

We paint a terrace at the last of the light. A rattan chair, a brass tray with a silver teapot and a glass of mint tea, a terracotta pot with a lemon tree; beyond the parapet, the rooftops, the palms, the minaret with the sun on its west face, and the High Atlas going violet behind. Your pet sits on the chair, close to the viewer, with a soft scarf if you want one.
The warm evening light keeps a face and its markings clear, and the familiar silhouette behind does the rest.
Composition suggestions
Cream, apricot and white coats catch the last light beautifully; brindle and grey coats hold their detail against the warm sky. It is our most affectionate composition, the animal is close, seated, at ease, and it suits any pet that will sit on a chair for a photograph.

Before you choose Koutoubia Minaret
- Will the terrace furniture stay the same?
- The example suggests a chair and tea beside a minaret view. A new generation can change those objects and their positions. Check that they do not hide the animal or introduce distracting detail.
- Is this the same as the royal Koutoubia look?
- No. This is a terrace portrait with a minaret reference. The Koutoubia Companion is a separate imagined royal interior with a cape and cushion. Neither establishes a bookable terrace or exact viewing address.
