About this piece
The blue was mixed to be seen through leaves. It is saturated enough that bamboo and cactus read almost black against it, and the whole point of the colour is what it does to green — stand there at noon and the shade is blue rather than grey. We paint the wall and the planting because both are a place you can walk into. The canvases the man himself made are another matter: Jacques Majorelle died in 1962 and his work is protected until 2033.
