About this piece

Boujad rugs are pink, and not a shy pink: madder and cochineal pushed until the ground glows. The drawing over the top is abstract and asymmetric in a way that reads as sophisticated now and was simply how the weaver worked that week.

A living tradition

This comes from a craft people still practise. It is nobody's private property and it is not nobody's work either: it was made, over centuries, mostly by women whose names were never written down. We say so rather than call it anonymous.
