About this piece
When there was no wool the women wove with rags — cut-up clothing, nylon, plastic twine, whatever the house could spare. Boucherouite is the poorest Moroccan textile and by a distance the most inventive: violent pink against acid green, no symmetry, no plan, completely alive. It is also the reason the collage collection next door exists.

A living tradition
This comes from a craft people still practise. It is nobody's private property and it is not nobody's work either: it was made, over centuries, mostly by women whose names were never written down. We say so rather than call it anonymous.
