Le Jardin Secret
Le Jardin Secret’s official history traces the site to a Saadian palace complex, followed by destruction, nineteenth-century rebuilding and later decline and restoration. That layered history is more useful than assuming the current garden preserves one unchanged sixteenth-century plan.

We paint the Islamic garden at noon, from the raised wall. The pavilion’s green tiled roof and white curtains sit at the centre; cypress, orange trees and clipped hedges fill the quarters; the rooftops of the medina step away behind with the minaret on the skyline.
