About this piece

Eight-point stars, and then the shapes that fall out between them: the almond, the cross, the little bone-shaped saf. Moroccan geometry is built outward from a rosette rather than laid onto a grid, which is why the panels feel grown rather than drawn, and why no two walls in the medina are quite the same.

Green, white, a single lapis

A living tradition

This comes from a craft people still practise. It is nobody's private property and it is not nobody's work either: it was made, over centuries, mostly by women whose names were never written down. We say so rather than call it anonymous.
