About this composition
The school moved off canvas onto copper and hide because those were the materials the country's craftsmen already worked, and because paint on stretched linen was the thing they were arguing with. Curved organic forms in henna and black on a hammered warm ground: matte, tactile, and nothing like an easel painting.
