About this composition

One flat field and a single Amazigh-derived mark — a comb, a diamond — set on it as a graphic sign. The marks come from tattoo and weaving, where they were a written language that outsiders read as decoration. Putting one on a canvas at this scale was a political act in 1965 and reads as a design decision now.
